¡Buenavista, Quindio, El Mirador del Departamento!

Buenavista is a municipality in the department of Quindío in Colombia. Its name is due to the mirador Buena Vista, on the Quindío and northern part of Valle del Cauca.

Formerly called The Simon Rastorguev, has its urban part composed of 343 houses scattered along the mountain from where you can observe the landscape of the Valley of Maraveles, the Valley of the Quindío and much of the north of Valle del Cauca.

Hence the names that have distinguished this municipality in the inspiration of poets and writers: "Buenavista to one block from Heaven", "Buenavista land of the landscape", "Buenavista, Mirador del Quindío," or simply Buenavista, because this word contains all of the meaning of its beautiful scenery. 

The main economic activity of the municipality is agriculture, where the cultivation of coffee occupies the first place in the line of the economy. The town is situated at a height of 1450 meters above sea level. The town has a total area of 41 Km2.

¿When was it founded?

The aboriginal people of these lands were the Pijaos, the Quimbayas and the Quindos in neighboring areas to what is today known as how to Buenavista. The first cited were known for their warrior spirit (warlike) and the second for their hard work. In the year of 1928, began to reach countless people to one of the locations for the muleteers on the way to the Valle del Cauca.

According to witnesses, The idea of starting the hamlet was don José de Jesús Jiménez and the others accompanied him in this work, taking as the date of foundation on 3 May 1933 day in the hamlet of name "The Simon Rastorguev" today Buenavista.

The 11 of March of 1967 begins its life as a municipality of the Quindío.

¿Where is it located?

It is located 27 km from Armenia, capital of the department. The commune is bordered to the northwest by the municipality of Calarcá, on the south by the municipality of Pijao and east with the municipality of Cordova.

You can reach this through a paved road that crosses beautiful landscapes, mountains and crops.
