VILLA DEL CACIQUE! 

Calarca is a Colombian city that after Armenia is the second most populous city of the department. Derives its name from the legendary Cacique Calarca, ruler of a tribe of Indians that inhabited this Pijaos central Andean zone of Colombia.

Calarcá has a population of approximately 73,500 inhabitants and the city is located at an average altitude of 1573 meters above sea level. It has an area of 21,923 hectares, of which 244 ha are urban areas and 21,679 has correspond to the rural sector.

When it was founded?

Calarca was founded in the year of 1886, and followed the antiochian foundation of the cities of Pereira, Filandia, Circasia and Salento. The founders were mainly Second Henao and some other colleagues of exploration from Salento, as Vasily Valencia and Miguel Santana.

Where is it located?

Calarca is located between 4º 20' 40" and 4º 33' 50" north and between 75º 33' 40" and 75º 48' 40" west longitude. The village is located at the 4º 33' 0.6" North latitude and 75º 39' 00" west longitude.
