El Pueblito Paisa del Departamento!!!

Genova is a village and municipality in the southern area of the Department of Quindío in Colombia.

The economy of the municipality is mainly based on farming activities, among which stands out the coffee maker in all the sidewalks with the exception of the farms in the highlands.

In a second line appears the plantain and banana, also the fruit of cold weather, the caña panelera, Pitaya, beans, corn and horticulture. In the livestock part stick out (in order of importance) exploitation in bovine animals and swine, apiculture, fish farming and poultry farming.

The town is situated at a height of 1446 meters above sea level. The town has a total area of 297.89 Km2.

¿When was it founded?

It was the indigenous territory, according to the testimonies of the guaqueros, these lands were occupied by indians Pijaos and Quimbayas, which were ravaged by the Spaniards in the 17th century.

In the year 1,889 that some members of the expedition commanded by Don Segundo Henao, founder of Calarca, gave the first steps for the location of a new population in this area.

Genova was founded in 1903 and was district of Pijao up to 1,937, year in which it was unbundled from the Pijao and erected municipality according to Ordinance No. 10 of the Assembly' of the department of Caldas.

¿Where is it found?

This mountain range is located 52 km from Armenia, the Capital of the Department, for a 100% paved road to

the southern municipality of Genoa is bordered on the north by the municipality of Pijao, south east with the Department of Tolima and to the south-west with the department of Valle del Cauca.
