Pijao, Quindio, El Municipio a Donde Llegan las Garzas..

Pijao is a municipality in the department of Quindío in Colombia. It is considered by many as a municipality of singular beauty.

Its economy is based on agriculture, especially coffee, sugar cane, lulo, mora, and bread. Account also with crops of pine in its mountains, in addition to the Pope. In alluvial mining develops streaks and gold mines.

Their culture is rich in architecture, music and dance. The town is situated at a height of 1650 meters above sea level. The town has a total area of 243 Km2.

¿When was it founded?

Migrant arrived to these lands of Nariño, Cauca, vallecaucanos, cundinamarqueses boyacenses tolimenses, santandereanos and of course in Antioquia, the first wave of immigration came mainly from Rionegro and Sonson.

Founded on 15 May 1902 in the territory of Pijaos tribes. It was clearing the land in what is today the main square of the Pijao and agreed to the founders give you the name of San José de Colon.

It was erected as a municipality in 1926.

The Municipality of Pijao is located on the western slope of the Cordillera Central.

It is bordered to the north by the municipalities of Cordoba, Buenavista and Calarcá; to the east with the department of Tolima (towns of Roncesvalles and St. Helena); on the south by the municipality of Genoa and to the west with the department of Valle del Cauca.

The distance to the capital of Armenia is 30 kilometers by paved road.
