Quimbaya is a city and municipality in the western part of the department of Quindío. The name of the city derives from the name of the Precolumbian culture that inhabited the area, the Quimbaya civilization. It is located 20 km northwest of the capital of the department, Armenia.

¿When it was founded?

Quimbaya was founded on 1 August 1914 by John J. Buitrago, and it was not until 5 April of 1,922 that was given the name of the Municipality of Quimbaya, despite proposed names like Alexandria, Bolivar, Andalusia, and Lorraine.

¿Where is it found?

The Quimbaya municipality is located in the western branches of the central mountain range to the west of the Department of Quindio and in a strategic area of reported toward the Valle del Cauca, its area of influence is to a greater extent on what municipalities in the north of the valley.
