It is a municipality in the northwest of the department of Quindío. The municipality covers an area of 377.67 km2. It was the first settlement in the Quindio of the modern era and the first town founded in the department. It is distinguished by the architecture of its square, and its old houses in shadows and walls of mud, the friendliness and kindness of its people, for its beautiful landscapes and for its excellent climate. The municipality is known as Cuna del árbol Nacional "La Palma de Cera". The people of Salento in itself rests on a plateau above the valley of the river Quindío. The section of the Salento river valley at the start of the river is known as the Valle de Cocora. The town is located at an average altitude of 1895 meters above sea level.

¿How do you get?

From Armenia to reach Salento is taken, the almost totally straight, Autopista del Cafe toward Pereira during 15 kilometers. Then take the exit to Salento which has 9 kilometers of beautiful scenery and entertaining curves, ups and downs by a paved road in perfect condition.

¿What is the climate like?

Due to its altitude and the high mountains of the Cordillera Central, the climate of Salento is temperate. The average temperature of the village is 18 °Cm perfect for tourism.

Salento is one of the main tourist sites of the Quindío, Colombia. Because of this there are several interesting places to visit in the village and its surroundings.
